The 2007 Nuits St. Georges Aux Lavieres is drinking so beautifully now that it is difficult resisting the temptation just to open all bottles! It has a fragrant, floral bouquet with crystalline red cherries mixed with blood orange scents. The palate is wonderfully balanced with superb poise, a fleshy texture and a finish that just glides to its conclusion. Perhaps it does not quite have the persistency of Louis-Michel’s top wines, but it just an effortless Pinot Noir that is nigh irresistible. I will be covering Louis-Michel’s highly praised; elusive and expensive wines in future issues of The Wine Advocate. But for now, in October I attended a fascinating tasting of older vintages to glean how they age. Certainly, these wines are imbued with a citrus freshness that verges of sorbet-like with some wines. They clearly go out to impress and impress they do. What these wines refuse to do is short-change the Burgundy-lover apropos perfume or flavor; they willingly go out there to satisfy the senses. They also appear to age slowly and gracefully, and I suspect most of these will reach their plateau after around a decade in the cellar.

Good full red. Aromas of black cherry, minerals and spices. A step up in cut and life from the Clos du Chateau, with juicy acidity framing the rather wild redcurrant and floral flavors. Finishes with supple tannins, nuances of minerals and crushed stone and good aromatic persistence.
