Note di degustazione
(an 80/20 blend of syrah and petite sirah) Saturated ruby.Musky aromas of cassis, black plum, minerals and earth, with a pronounced oakiness. Fat, lush and sweet but firm-edged, with blackberry and licorice flavors complicated by a saline element. Finishes full and smooth, with substantial building tannins, a peppery quality and some tarry oak.

The 2003 Relentless is heading into a more closed, dormant stage. It reveals more oak than previously, and with coaxing, blueberry, blackberry, scorched earth, and spice aromas emerge from this young, full-bodied, dense, impressive red. This offering receives the same upbringing as the renowned Hillside Select Cabernet Sauvignon, i.e., 30-32 months in 100% new French oak. The 2003 Relentless should evolve for a minimum of 10-15 years. Tel. (707) 944-2877; Fax (707) 944-9454

The site of Shafer has been around since 1880, and grapes continued to be grown here, even during prohibition. It is said that some wine was made here during that time. In 1972, John Shafer bought the property in the Stag’s Leap district, he immediately began planting the Cabernet on the hillside.
