Punteggio 93/100 · Jeb Dunnuck, Jun 2011

The estate's top Shiraz, the 2004 Peter Lehmann Shiraz Stonewell appears to be aging beautifully with a deep red color and only slight lightening at the edges. It shows a deep, rich bouquet of plum and assorted dark fruits, chocolate, meat juice, and hints of eucalyptus and asphalt. This is followed by a full bodied, very well put together wine that’s balanced, has good acidity, and a clean, focused, and lengthy finish. Drinking beautifully now, this has the structure to continue to show well for at least another 5-8 years.

The 2004 Stonewell Shiraz, sourced from several Barossa districts, spent 18 months in predominantly French oak hogsheads. Opaque purple-colored, it delivers an enticing bouquet of pain grille, pencil lead, spice box, smoked meat, and blueberry. It has a firm entry onto the palate followed by layers of sweet, savory fruit. Balanced, with excellent depth and concentration, this lengthy, ripe effort will evolve for 4-6 years and offer prime drinking from 2013 to 2025. Importer: Hess Group, www.peterlehmannwines.com

Dark purple. Blackberry and cherry liqueur on the nose, with suave oak spice, candied licorice and cocoa powder scents adding complexity. Youthfully primary dark berry and bitter cherry flavors are supported by supple tannins, picking up sweet chewing tobacco and minerals on the back. Chewy tannins build on the finish but don't quite shut down the lingering, liqueur-like cassis and dark cherry fruit. Give this bottle aging or aeration.
