Very dark crimson. Thick, sweet, a bit porty and still very youthful. This is elixir of Barossa Shiraz, but perhaps belongs more on the medicine spoon than in the wine glass. (JR)

(aged in all new oak, one-third American and two-thirds French) Dark ruby. Smoky scents of oak spice, asphalt, tar, dark cherry and blackberry, along with a hint of fruitcake. Fat and oily in the mouth, with intense, slightly roasted blackberry, cassis and espresso flavors, accented by oaky vanilla, cinnamon and clove. Quite rich and thick but held back a bit by the aggressive oak treatment.
Blackish crimson. Marmite/vegemite on nose. Yeast extract then extremely aggressive tannins – and acid. Hard work! Some overripe flavours too. (JR)
It's a no-brainer with respect to the dense purple-colored 1998 Shiraz Stonewell. The wine is inky/purple-colored, with oodles of blackberry and cassis fruit intermixed with hints of honeysuckle, wood, earth, and pepper. This full-throttle, majestic offering is super-concentrated and rich, with a wealth of glycerin, fruit, and extract. There is plenty of tannin lurking under the surface, but it is nearly obscured by the wine's exceptional depth. Anticipated maturity: now-2018.
