Punteggio 88/100 · Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, Jul 2010

Deep ruby-red. Superripe plum, mocha, tobacco, graphite and licorice on the nose, plus a musky suggestion of leather. Sweet and plump, even a bit chunky, with a chewy mid-palate and very ripe flavors of chocolate and earth. Finishes with slightly unrefined tannins.

A sensational effort, this up-and-coming over-achiever has hit pay dirt with a 2007 that achieved 13.5% natural alcohol. It possesses a dense ruby/purple color along with a big, sweet nose of mulberries, boysenberries, spring flowers, and a hint of mocha. Deep, ripe, fleshy, succulent, and loaded with fruit, it tastes as if it came from a completely different vintage than 2007 given its depth and length. Consume it over the next 10+ years.

Good ruby-red. High-pitched aromas of crushed blackberry, iron and violet. Sweet, dense and pliant, with moderate flesh but a broad, palate-saturating quality to the dark fruit, iron and licorice flavors. Finishes vibrant and long, with a repeating iron note and dusty tannins that reach the teeth. Very tasty already.

Slightly evolved rim. Toasty, interesting nose. Big and bold and pretty confident. Long and yet not out of balance. (JR)
