(made from roughly 60% pinot noir, 30% chardonnay and 10% pinot meunier; LA110D06211): Bright yellow-gold. Potent, spice-accented aromas of pear, nectarine, honey and chamomile, with a smoky overtone. Bright and focused on the palate, offering intense orchard and citrus fruit flavors underscored by chalky minerality. The floral note comes back on the finish, which shows excellent focus and energy.

The 2006 Rosé Millésimé is a gorgeous wine endowed with an expressive bouquet suggestive of roses, spices, minerals and crushed berries. It possesses wonderful richness, depth and clarity in a cool, beguiling style. This can be enjoyed today, although I am curious to see how it develops in the coming years. It is a huge overachiever in its price range. The 2006 Brut Rose is mostly Pinot Noir, of which 8% is still wine, plus a dash of Chardonnay, from the villages of Ay, Mareuil-sur-Ay, Bouzy, Verzenay and Ambonnay. It is a serious rosé from Deutz. This is Lot: LR110D08810, disgorged March 29, 2010. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2026. Importer: Maisons Marques & Domaines USA, Inc., Oakland, CA; tel. (510) 587-2000
(disgorged March 29, 2010) Light, bright pink. Mineral-laced citrus and red berry aromas are complicated by iris, yellow rose and chalk, along with a gentle touch of smoky lees. Taut and slow to open, offering tangy redcurrant and wild strawberry flavors and a kiss of orange peel. Smoothes out on the finish, which repeats the red fruit and floral notes. Give this a couple years of bottle age.
