Good full, deep red. Complex aromas of black raspberry, cherry, coffee and game. Silky, spicy and fresh, with lovely lift and definition to the rather lush fruit. A lightly peppery quality perks up the wine without introducing greenness. Best on the very long, building finish, which features suave tannins and lingering sweetness. Seems every bit as long as the 2009 version. This was vinified with one-third whole clusters, and that percentage seems struck me as just right.

Perfumed nose. Very lively and fresh with more flesh and middle than many 2008s. A little chewy for the moment but very fresh. Sinewy. Clean and fresh. (JR)
(vinified with one-third whole clusters) Highly complex, very spicy aromas of black cherry, currant, licorice, minerals, soy sauce and chocolate. Sweet, dense and powerful, with an almost painful impression of energy to the flavors of red fruits, flowers and spices. More classic than the 2007 but less voluptuous. Finishes subtle and extremely long. Engerer is still trying to decide if whole clusters are the way to go for this cuvee
Also picked on 30 Sep, along with Échezeaux. Deep crimson. Rich, dense and flattering. There is great life here, and it reminded me of their Brûlées with its intense, almost burnt character. Transparent and communicative with a hint of roast chestnuts. (JR)
