Punteggio 92+/100 · Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, Mar 2014

Good dark red. More complex on the nose than the Clos Prieur or Brunelle, offering scents of red cherry, smoke, mocha, minerals and licorice. At once sweet and energetic, with excellent lift and definition to its densely packed black fruit and spice flavors. Sappy, firmly tannic and long on the juicy finish. An excellent showing today, but give it at least five or six years of additional aging.

Red-ruby. Spicy aromas of black cherry, currant and licorice. Intensely flavored and perfumed, with sound acidity and a peppery note lifting the flavors of blackberry and mint. Finishes firm, floral and very long, with refined tannins and excellent verve.

Discreet but not invisible wood frames pleasantly layered red and dark berry liqueur-like scents that lead to rich, round and lightly mineral-inflected flavors that exhibit a variety of soil tones. There is also fine detail and plenty of underlying tension to the mildly austere and balanced finish where there is noticeable oak influence. While a bit oaky today there is good material and this should be able to eat its wood in time. Tasted: Jan 15, 2014. Drink: 2021+
