Tasted at BI Wine & Spirits' 10-Years-On tasting, the 2007 Canon la Gaffeliere has a lovely chestnut-tinged bouquet with satisfying, commendable fruit generosity given the growing season, brimming with buxom raspberry and wild cherry scents. The palate is smooth on the entry, quite gamy in quality and curiously reminding me of a fine Stellenbosch Cabernet blend (meant as a complement). I admire the depth and weight of this Saint Emilion, and while it is just beginning to show some dryness on the finish, it should give pleasure for another 5-6 years. Tasted February 2017.
Darker and more dark-fruited than the Ch Les Grandes Murailles. Still some cedary notes. Tannins still offering some resistance but smooth and succulent overall. Not hugely long but satisfying with a chocolate texture on the finish. (JH)
Blackish ruby. Quite intense and ambitious. Modern but not excessively modern style. Lots of potential here still. Lip smacking and appetising. (JR)
