Lots of Asian soy, licorice and Christmas fruitcake notes intermingled with notions of red and black fruits and spice box emerge from this dark plum/garnet-colored (with just a bit of pink at the edge), medium to full-bodied, opulent, round, juicy, hedonistic 2003. Enjoy it over the next 4-5 years.

Deep smudgy garnet. Very sweet smelling. Spiced prunes. Overripe and then dry on the finish. (JH)
Moderately saturated medium red. Aromas of redcurrant, tobacco and smoky oak show good lift. Then distinctly tight in the mouth, conveying less richness than I expected to find. Notes of redcurrant, plum and spice. Not a particularly sweet style. Finishes with slightly dusty tannins. (I will wait to taste the 2004 in bottle next spring; my sample in April was in a distinctly awkward stage.)
