Tasted blind in a line-up of 2011 Amoureuses in Holland, Faiveley’s 2011 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Amoureuses has an extroverted, floral bouquet that verges on gregarious with plush maraschino, blueberry, iris and a light sea influence. It is beautifully defined and focused, the oak nicely integrated. The palate is medium-bodied, nicely balanced, with quite chewy, sinewy tannins. It feels just a little rustic at the moment, a little austerity coming through toward the finish that has a hint of soy sauce on the aftertaste. Tasted June 2014.

This is also strikingly complex and spicier as well with a broad ranging nose of dried rose petal, lavender, cassis, black cherry and plum that is trimmed in notes of sandalwood and cinnamon. There is excellent focus and punch to the mineral-inflected and seductively textured middle weight flavors that possess excellent verve and a real sense of harmony on the gorgeously persistent finish.
