Punteggio 91/100 · Da bere 2016-2026, Neal Martin, Wine Advocate, Apr 2015

Now at 13 years of age, the Chambolle Musigny 1er Cru les Amoureuses 2001 has a surprisingly reserved nose with broody, blackberry fruit. With continued aeration it curiously develops an almost Merlot-like character. The palate is aloof at first but gradually opens up to reveal its smooth, velvety interior. This is a very polished Amoureuses–you could almost argue too polished. Yes, there is a cheek-pinch of white pepper on the finish, but somehow it is missing the charm of the Chambolle 1er Cru 1999 tasted in tandem.

(de Vogue owns 0.56 hectares of this vineyard, of which the Groffiers own the largest single piece, at just over 1 hectare) Deep, bright red. More vibrant, highly perfumed aromas of blackberry, minerals, violet and rose petal. Sweet, silky and layered, with lush texture but bright firming acidity. This shows lovely early sweetness and a very long, very ripe finish. This is amazingly delicious already, as there are no rough edges.
