Da bere 0-0, Neal Martin, May 2023

The 1995 Chambolle-Musigny Les Amoureuses 1er Cru lacks a bit of freshness on the nose, although it felt to be a correct bottle. The palate has a core of sweet candied red fruit and fine acidity. It lingers nicely but seems strangely anonymous on the finish. I am not convinced this is representative overall, so I will not score this. Tasted at the Les Amoureuses vertical at Hide restaurant.

(also known as the Chateau de Chambolle-Musigny) Frederic Mugnier had just recently bottled his 1995s when I visited him in June, and he was reluctant to allow me to taste them. Two of the wines were showing admirably well and deserve to be mentioned. The ruby-colored Chambolle-Musigny Les Amoureuses exhibits delightful aromas of wild strawberries and touches of underbrush as well as an extremely elegant, silky-textured, medium-to-full bodied personality jam-packed with lively cherries, violets, minerals and spices. This superb wine possesses plenty of ripe, round tannins for structure in its beautifully long finish. Drink it between 2001-2009. Pale cherry-red. Tighter, higher-pitched aromas of cherry, strawberry, gunflint and spice; clearly fresher than the normale and the Fuees. Supple and sweet in the mouth, with spicy, fresh red fruit flavors. This offers much better clarity than the normale and the Fuees. Fresh on the finish, with finer, softer tannins. Lovely understated Chambolle. Perhaps Mugnier's most successful '95 and the best value by a wide margin.
