Tasted at the Chambolle Amoureuses vertical in London, the 1997 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru les Amoureuses seems a little more faded on the nose compared to the 1996 Amoureuses. There is a touch of iodine tincturing the black rather than red fruit, while the palate is chewy and does not have the finesse of the 1996 or the 1999, and does not possess the "flow" that you normally find in this great wine. Drink now. Tasted November 2015.

Medium red. Perfumed, vibrant aromas of raspberry, blood orange, currant and creosote. Juicy, very intensely flavored and remarkably fresh for the vintage; this wine retained its penetrating perfume and stony precision for three days in the recorked bottle. Finishes bright, firm and long, with terrific grip and a noble hint of white pepper. Among my sentimental favorites from this vintage.
