Note di degustazione
(100% tempranillo) Deep ruby. Brooding dark fruit compote, chocolate and smoked meat on the nose, with an exotic floral quality. Blackberry and kirsch flavors are dense and chewy, giving this a rather unforthcoming personality. Opens up a bit with air, gaining a sweeter raspberry preserve flavor, but this is a bit cranky and adolescent today. Very serious material, though.

The 2004 Paisajes VIII is 100% Tempranillo from 60- to 70-year-old vines sourced from a single vineyard in the village of Briones where Finca Allende is located. It was aged for 14 months in French oak. Purple-colored, it possesses the best aromatics of this quartet with scents of pain grille, spice box, cassis, and blackberry. The wine has an excellent core of fruit with layers of spicy flavor leading to a long, pure finish. This nicely balanced wine can be enjoyed now and over the next 15-20 years. Vila Viniteca is a joint venture between Miquel Angel de Gregorio of Finca Allende and Quim Vila, owner of Vila Viniteca, a fine wine shop in Barcelona. The objective, according to importer Eric Solomon, is to select special vineyard sites with old vines planted with unique/indigenous varietals. The wines are discussed in the order in which they were presented. Importer: Eric Solomon, European Cellars, Charlotte, NC; tel. (704) 358-1565
