As usual, the 2009 Clos Rene is well-made, but just doesn’t hit the top echelon. It reveals a dense plum/ruby color, lots of sweet black cherry and plum-like fruit, lush, heady, medium to full-bodied flavors, silky tannins, and a robust, exuberant, fat finish. Drink it over the next 10-15 years. (Tasted once.)
Tasted at the Pomerol Syndicate tasting. This has a leafy, slightly under-ripe nose that is rather disappointing given the pedigree of the estate. The palate is simple, balanced but lacking real complexity. Tasted April 2010.
