The 2000 La Lagune was the first vintage to use a sorting table. It has a clean and expressive bouquet with redcurrant jam and raspberry preserved mixed with gravel and tobacco scents, nicely defined if not overly complex. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannin, tightly wound black fruit tinged with tar and sea salt, leading to a structured and rather “square-jawed” finish that would have benefitted from more flesh. Tasted at the La Lagune vertical at the château.

Tasted in Bordeaux from an ex-château bottle, the 2000 La Lagune has a ripe brambly red fruit, raspberry preserve and rose petal scented bouquet that is attractive, if not the most complex 2000 Claret you will find. The palate is medium-bodied with dry, slightly disjointed tannins and a rather hollow finish that lacks substance and length. You are left feeling shortchanged by this very average La Lagune. Tasted April 2015.
Sweet, query bretty. Alcoholic and hot. Not charming. Rather jagged. (JR)
