Punteggio 83/100 · Da bere 2018-2022, Neal Martin, Apr 2018

The 1997 La Lagune has a fresh bouquet with pretty redcurrant and blackcurrant scents mixed with orange sorbet, vanilla pod and a hint of white truffle. The palate is medium-bodied with a slightly soft, chocolate-tinged opening. There is something a little “beige” about this La Lagune that is obviously easy drinking and maybe showing a bit too much oak? This is just too lactic for me and I speculate whether the previous owners (Ayala) over-chaptalized at the time. Drink soon. Tasted at the La Lagune vertical at the château.

Punteggio 86/100 · Da bere 2000-2006, Robert Parker, Apr 2000

Spicy notes of saddle leather, kirsch, vanilla, and roasted nuts emerge from the moderately intense bouquet of this fruity, medium-bodied, soft, accessible 1997. While it lacks density, aging potential, and concentration, it is a charming wine to drink over the next 5-6 years.

Very aromatic, with berry, currant and vanilla aromas. Medium-bodied, with a lovely core of fruit and silky tannins. Delicious. Drink now through 2004.James Suckling, Wine Spectator 2000
