1994 La Lagune

Although La Lagune has provided me with many reasonably priced, delicious wines, both the 1994 and 1995 were a bit diluted, suggesting the selection should have been more severe. The 1994 reveals this estate's tell-tale, pronounced oakiness in the nose, but the rich, ripe, black-cherry fruit that is almost Burgundian in its personality, does not appear sufficient to stand up to the wood. On the palate, there is some elegance, decent acidity, and a green, peppery quality to the fruit. The wine narrows out to a short finish. Drink it over the next 7-8 years. All of the wines in this segment were tasted between March 19 and March 28 in Bordeaux. Most of the important wines from both the 1994 and 1995 vintages were tasted three separate times during my ten-day stay in Bordeaux. Wine Advocate.April, 1996
