Punteggio 86/100 · Da bere 2018-2022, Neal Martin, Apr 2018

The 1964 La Lagune has a deep chestnut core with a thin tawny rim. There is just a slight turbidity but nothing to get too worried about. The nose is commendable considering that this is a reputed Right Bank and not Left Bank vintage, initially a little metallic but that seems to pass leaving rustic scents of decayed autumn leaves, balsamic and an Italian delicatessen. There is commendable definition. With time, the aromatics evolve hints of pressed flowers. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannin. There is adequate red fruit that feel rather bitter and yet there are vestiges of freshness even if it pulls up very short. Provenance probably plays a key here. Drink soon if you have any bottles but this is satisfactory for the vintage. Tasted at the La Lagune vertical at the château.
