Old school Tronquoy, this is tasty, easy to drink, well balanced and great value, full on Left Bank character, not hugely concentrated but has spirit, juice and lift, along with fresh brambled fruits, cocoa bean and mint leaf on the finish.

This was decanted. Reduced initially? Still a bit reduced in fact. Pungent and I would not pay this money for a wine that offered just a whiff of greatness but it certainly has more to it than most other Laithwaites red bordeaux in this showing. A hint of whisky lactones. (JR)
The 2009 Tronquoy Lalande, a blend of 51% Merlot, 42% Cabernet Sauvignon and 7% Petit Verdot, is the finest wine they have yet produced. It reveals an opulent bouquet of mulberries, blueberries, raspberries and spring flowers, full body, silky tannin, low acidity and a lush, pure mouthfeel. This uncharacteristically round, generous, sumptuous wine should be drinkable early on.

This 30-hectare estate in Saint-Estèphe is only classified as a Cru Bourgeois yet its terroir has long been prized. Now part of the same stable as the illustrious Ch. Montrose, there has been significant investment here, with rising quality and wines that now offer excellent value.
