Punteggio 89/100 · Da bere 2019-2035, Neal Martin, Aug 2019

The 2004 Lafaurie-Peyraguey is one of the less successful vintages in recent years. The nose slowly unfurls to reveal light peach and honey notes and an adhesive trait. The palate is medium-bodied with a lightly spiced entry; a little lean for a Sauternes of note, though balanced. This is linear and fresh in style, with a touch of salinity toward the long finish. Enjoyable, though not a long-term Sauternes. Tasted from an ex-château bottle at home.

Punteggio 89/100 · Da bere 2014-2030, Neal Martin, Wine Advocate, Dec 2014

The 2004 Chateau Lafaurie-Peyraguey has a muted nose at first, but with modest encouragement it reveals attractive peach, mandarin and subtle adhesive/resinous scents. The palate is medium-bodied with a crisp, slightly spicy entry. There is less botrytis here compared to the 2003, but there is a pleasant grip and vivacity in the mouth with a linear, focused finish that might lack a little complexity, but feels very persistency. It is quite saline on the aftertaste. Drink now or keep for another 12 to 15 years.

Punteggio 87/100 · Da bere 2014-2020, Neal Martin, Wine Advocate, Apr 2014

The 2004 Lafaurie-Peyraguey has a modest and rather conservative bouquet that fails to really connect. There is nothing intrinsically wrong, but there is nothing here to capture the imagination. This is redeemed by the palate, which sports a clean viscous opening and plenty of botrytized fruit – here there is finally some dialogue between taster and wine. There is a fine tension in the mouth that I wish was translated into the aromatics, but the length and spiciness deserve a light round of applause. Drink now-2020. Tasted February 2014.

Thick and sweet. Round and intense and flashy. Barley sugar. (JR)
