Good medium red. Dee p, soil-driven aromas of raspberry, roasted herbs, smoke, earth, and white and black pepper. Fat, dense and thick, with a velvety texture and notes of smoke and roasted herbs. Extremely round but not at all sweet. A huge wine for Barthod, with the palate presence of a grand cru. Finishes very long and dry, with superripe, suave tannins.

The 2002 Chambolle-Musigny Les Veroilles, from a parcel high on the hillside, offers aromatics of blackberries, stones, and earth. Masculine, highly concentrated, and powerful, it is a wine that all the self-proclaimed terroirists who spout the “Chambolle is always lacelike and feminine” nonsense should be required to taste. Its licorice, blackberry, and cassis-packed flavor profile builds on the palate, displaying enormous depth and muscle. Bright, deep red-ruby color. Sappy aromas of wild raspberry, cherry and crushed stone; I might have picked this blind as Bonnes-Mares. Dense, stony and classy; pure, powerful flavors are sharpened by strong acids. Flavors similar to the aromas. At once sauvage and noble; dense but not at all heavy. Finishes very long and silky, with impressive precision. A potentially outstanding vintage for this cuvee
