Punteggio 91/100 · Da bere 2010-2020, David Schildknecht, Wine Advocate, Jun 2010

A tart melange of fresh red and black raspberries joins with smoked meat and bitter dark chocolate in Serafin’s lean, long, bright, and multi-registered 2007 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Cazetiers. Here is an instance of more than enough stamina, refreshment, and fine tannic underpinnings allied to sufficient sweet, sappy primary fruit, a combination one finds too seldom in the 2007 vintage. Hints of vanilla and licorice add allure to a long finish. I would anticipate this being worth following for a decade. “In two thousand eight, the grapes had too much acid,” states Christian Serafin, “and in 2009, perhaps too much sugar,” he adds with a smile. Serafin says he had to perform a more rigorous de-leafing, green harvesting and triage in 2008 than in 2007. “It’s an awkward vintage for restaurants,” he points out about 2008, “because most of them sell the wines to be drunk young, and these wines will still not be very approachable at that stage.” Importer: Weygandt-Metzler, Unionville, PA; tel. Good bright, dark red. Deep aromas of dark berries, smoked meat and chocolate, with some smoky oak showing today. Sweet and supple on entry, then rather sturdy and powerful in the middle, showing a medicinal reserve today. Stuffed with very ripe black raspberry, chocolate and oak flavors and quite long on the back end, finishing with firm tannic backbone and noteworthy energy. Give this at least five years.

Bright ruby-red. Reticent nose hints at black fruits, bitter chocolate and meat; rather brooding and inexpressive today. Then moderately sweet and penetrating on the palate, with terrific acid spine to frame the bitter cherry and dark chocolate flavors. In a distinctly muscular style, with terrific energy for the vintage. Finishes with dusty tannins and superb breadth and palate-staining persistence.
