Very good on the nose: intense and fragrant and unencumbered by oak. Firm palate with good fruit expression and tightly packed tannins. Much more open than many of its peers. Good. FINE+RARE

The 2012 Lascombes is more powerful on the nose, a mixture of red and black fruit, meat juices, desiccated orange peel, even a hint of marmalade with time. Quite attractive. The palate is medium-bodied and compact with fine-grain tannins, well-judged acidity and good weight. It shows more freshness on the finish than its peers. This is a well-crafted 2012 that could benefit from more time in bottle. No hurry. Tasted blind at the Southwold Ten-Year On tasting.
Tasted blind. Mid to deep crimson. Light nose. Quite tough, brutal tannins. Very hard work on the end. Will it soften? (JR)
Possessing a terrific bouquet of saddle leather, wild herbs, cassis and coffee beans, the 2012 Lascombes is rich, full-bodied, concentrated and nicely structured on the palate. With serious fruit intensity, ripe tannin and a great finish, this stacked Margaux will drink nicely for 10-15 years.
