Modern and rich and without much Margaux character. Nice sweetness to the fruit though and good length.

The 2011 Lascombes is poured from magnum. It is pretty austere on the nose with blackberry, damp undergrowth scents and a touch of gravel. You wish there was more fruit. The palate is medium-bodied, though the tannins feel rustic and rather harsh, attenuating prematurely towards the finish. I am not a fan of this vintage, which validates my note from the 10-Year-On tasting last year.
The 2011 Lasombes has more black fruit on the nose than its peers, blackberry, undergrowth and touches of meat juice, a little savory in style. The palate is quite dusty with rustic tannins and fine acidity, but it feels a little dry and woody towards the finish. I cannot see this going anywhere. Tasted blind at the annual 10-Year-On tasting.
Tasted blind. Sweet fruit on the nose. Mellow and quite flattering and Margaux-ish. Just a little tannic on the finish. (JR)
