Punteggio 88/100 · Da bere 2024-2032, Neal Martin, Oct 2024

The 2002 Giscours has a much lighter bouquet than the '01, with slightly dusty red fruit, red brick and forest floor scents. This seems mature, whereas the '01 will cruise for some years. The palate has a sweet entry and grippy tannins, though it is missing some grace and complexity. It just runs out of ideas on the finish. Drink now.

A good quality wine in what was a classic rather than overly seductive vintage, balanced, austere tannins, inky plum in colour, with lift and energy, cassis and bitter almond. Harvest October 1 to October 15, 50% new oak for ageing, Didier Forêt technical director and Jacques Boissenot consultant, Albada-Jelgersma owners.

Punteggio 91/100 · Da bere 2015-2030, Neal Martin, Wine Advocate, Jul 2016

Tasted at the Château Giscours vertical, the 2002 Château Giscours is a blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon and 40% Merlot picked between October 1 and 15. There remains that almost Pomerol-like personality on the nose, quite perfumed and floral with sage and burnt toast scents tincturing the dark berry fruit. With continued aeration, there is a just a hint of rooibos. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, quite ferrous in the mouth and lightly spiced. It does not deliver the same precision as the 2001, although there is decent length here. It does not offer great length, but for the vintage, this should be considered a modest success. Tasted June 2015.
