Punteggio 74/100 · Da bere 1991, Robert Parker, Jan 1998

Cask samples of the 1986 Giscours consistently tasted awkward and disjointed, and after three bottle tastings, I remain worried about this wine's potential. There is plenty of ripe fruit, but the pervading impression is one of raisiny overripeness rather than balance. Aromas of peaches, apricots, and prunes are followed by a wine that displays abundant spicy new oak, extremely low acidity, and a loosely knit, alcoholic, commercial character. Given the immense production of Giscours, one wonders if there should have been a stricter selection. Disappointing. Anticipated maturity: Now. Last tasted, 1/91.

Light and very mature, marked by wood but more vegetal than fruity, lacking the intensity of youthful flavor expected from this vintage. Drinkable, but not typical of the vintage. -James Suckling, Wine Spectator 1989
