Punteggio 91/100 · Da bere 2024-2038, Neal Martin, Oct 2024

The 1971 Giscours comes from a golden era for the château. The nose takes a few swirls to get going but unfolds to reveal gentle blackberry and autumn leaf scents, not as powerful as, say, the 1971 Palmer, yet well defined. The palate is medium-bodied, fresh and rustic with fine grip, showing mainly red fruit laced with white pepper and a touch of garrigue . There's maybe a hint of Brett, but nothing serious. The 1971 is a little "solid" in style but it has held up well.

Punteggio 84/100 · Da bere 1987, Robert Parker, Jan 1998

The 1971 is an impressively dark-colored wine for the vintage. It is rather robust and chunky, but lacking in polish and finesse. It makes a big palate impression with its dusty, ripe, substantial fruit and weight, but it finishes coarsely. This is a brawny, oafish example of Giscours that is unlikely to ever come into harmony. Anticipated maturity: Now. Last tasted, 1/87.
