Punteggio 93/100 · Da bere 2016-2027, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Feb 2016

Healthy bright red. Deep, smoky red fruits and a whiff of truffle on the nose and palate. Plump, rich and deep, conveying an utterly seamless texture and terrific volume for Nuits-Saint-Georges. Perfectly accessible right now owing to its supple tannins and total lack of rough edges but this very long wine is still young. "Try the Cailles with cailles [quail]," suggests Bertrand Chevillon.

(the last '02 to be bottled, in May of 2004) Good bright ruby-red. Liqueur-like aromas of dark berries, violet and sexy oak. Sweet but firm, with slightly idiosyncratic flavors of exotic flowers and minerals. This has energy and grip that I don't find in the 2003. Finishes firmly tannic and youthfully closed. Should reward a decade of patience.

Smoked bacon, Asian spices, and black cherries are found in the mouth-watering aromatics of the 2002 Nuits-St.-Georges Les Cailles. Awesomely expansive, armed with terrific mouth-feel, it slathers the taster’s palate with cassis liqueur, bacon, and blackberries. This velvety-textured wine is pure, concentrated, and boasts a prolonged finish. Anticipated maturity: 2009-2019. Importer: Kermit Lynch Wine Merchant, Berkeley, CA; tel. (510) 524-1524

Red-ruby. Superripe aromas of currant, flint and musky underbrush; verging on roasted yet fresh at the same time. Ripe, lush and concentrated, with sappy flavors of raspberry, redcurrant, sweet oak and earth. The densest and longest of these premier crus to this point. Finishes with fine tannins and subtle lingering fruit. A perennial favorite of mine.
