The 2007 d'Issan, a blend of 63% Cabernet Sauvignon and 37% Merlot, has a straight-forward, tobacco and sous-bois scented bouquet that does not match the quality of the previous two vintages. The palate is balanced with finer tannins than I expect, crisp and precise though, there remains some new oak waiting to be subsumed. It has commendable persistence considering the vintage and feels more approachable than the 2006. Overall, it comes recommended in the context of the vintage. Tasted at the d’Issan vertical held at the property.

Tasted blind at Farr Vintners 2007 Bordeaux tasting. The 2007 D'Issan has a reserved bouquet, nicely defined and focused with good tension, a mixture of red and black fruit mixed with cedar and cigar box scents. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannin. It is nicely balanced even though it is missing some depth on the finish. Looking back, it is quite Saint Julien in style, and it should drink nicely over the next 5-7 years. Tasted March 2015.
Mid crimson. Graphite minerally nose. Bone dry. Lightweight. This is the sort of wine that would be lauded in the New World currently for its terroir expression but seems just a bit short of fruit in a bordeaux context. (JR)
