A little closed on the nose but this opens up to show cassis fruit and some floral notes. An elegant Malescot with supple tannins and a mineral finish. FINE+RARE

The 2012 Malescot St. Exupéry has a sensual, red cherry, wild strawberry and blood orange scented nose with just a hint of dark chocolate coming through with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with a sweet entry, high-toned with just a touch of VA. This feels a little muddled and tries to overcome the limitations of the growing season. Tasted blind at the Southwold Ten-Year On tasting.
Tasted blind. Deep crimson. Not much perfume. Thick and extracted. Almost bitter on the finish which is far from Margaux’s charm. If I owned this, I’d hold on to it for quite a while, hoping it will eventually soften. (JR)
