The 2004 Lafon-Rochet has an elegant, understated bouquet with clean redcurrant and raspberry scents. Mint and peony notes emerge with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with edgy tannins, fine acidity, cohesive and focused with good weight on the finish. This appears to have blossomed in recent years and is worth seeking out. Tasted at the Lafon-Rochet vertical at the property.

This has it all – dry savoury character and concentration and great balance. Very subtle. Great tension. (JR)
Deep crimson. Very light nose, lots of acidity – very classic St-Estèphe, which many of the lowlier wines are not! But I'm not sure that the leanness of 2004 suits St-Estèphe's natural austerity that well, alas. Hard work at the moment! (JR)
