Note di degustazione
I was impressed by the 2008 Chateau Monbousquet. This wine had such a sexy, upfront personality on release, it’s easy to think it won’t age, but that’s not the case. Sporting a deep ruby/plum color as well as a full-bodied, ripe, sexy profile, it has lots of black cherries, chocolate, and spice-driven aromas and flavors. With terrific purity, ripe tannins, and a great finish, it’s a winner, and should easily keep for another decade.

The 2008 Monbousquet has a rich and rather heady bouquet, quite animally and savory in style, perhaps showing just a touch of brettanomyces? There is a smear of dark chocolate that lends it an almost Rioja-like veneer. The palate is medium-bodied with taut tannin, quite fresh in the mouth with a touch of mint. It is just missing refinement and real complexity for a wine of this class. Tasted blind at Farr Vintners’ 10-Year On tasting.
Tasted blind. Blackish ruby. Rather opulent, winning nose with attractive tertiary notes. Very ‘mature Merlot’ on the nose but just slightly burnt and charred on the end. Lovely nose; not so lovely palate. (JR)
