2011 Gevrey Chambertin Lavaux St Jacques

I was frankly surprised at how good this was and that it bested, if only just, the Cazetiers. A deft application of wood sets off fresher and more elegant if not more complex aromas of essence of cool red berry fruit, kirsch, wet stone and a hint of humus. There is excellent precision and here too an admirable amount of dry extract that imparts a seductive texture to the more obviously mineral-driven medium weight flavors that culminate in an explosively persistent finish. This is impressive and it could surpass the 2010 version. Tasted: Jan 14, 2013. Drink: 2018+
