The 2012 Charmail is juicy, forward and supple, with tons of up-front appeal. Sweet red cherries, plums and spices are all pushed forward in a pretty, accessible wine. The 2012 is best enjoyed over the next few years. The blend is 40% Merlot, 34% Cabernet Sauvignon, 17% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot.
A somewhat tannic, astringent style of wine with a dark ruby/purple color and an angular mouthfeel, this blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot lacks the generosity that it possesses in the top vintages. It should continue to evolve with some degree of uncertainty given the high tannins and insufficient fruit. Drink it over the next 5-7 years.
