Sweet tobacco, sage, rosemary and dried cherries all waft from the glass in the 2012 Pinot Noir Summa Old Vines. The Summa Old Vines is lifted, intensely aromatic and precise, but also a bit diffuse and ethereal. Orange peel, star anise and mint all add an element of exoticism. Here, too, the savory notes suggest whole clusters, but the fruit was totally destemmed. In 2012, this fruit was brought in on October 15, exceedingly late for Pinot, even on the coast. The 100% new barrels are beautifully integrated throughout.
