Note di degustazione
The 2003 Corullon “Moncerbal” (a tiny 185 case cuvee) comes from a single parcel of extremely steep hillsides. Opaque purple in color, it offers complex aromas of scorched earth, charcoal, smoke and assorted black fruits. It is an elegant, feminine expression, with velvety fruit and silky tannins and plenty of depth and concentration. Give it 2-3 years of cellaring and drink it over the following decade. This estate was started in 1998 by Alvaro Palacios. It has steep hillside vineyards and 60- to 100-year-old vines planted in 100% Mencia, a varietal indigenous to Bierzo, a cool-climate D.O. Ruby-red. Exotic, highly perfumed and suave on the nose, offering a pungent bouquet of mineral-laced red berries, star anise, potpourri and spicecake. This explodes with deeply concentrated, energetic wild strawberry and raspberry liqueur flavors underscored by graphite and licorice root. Remarkably long finish of spicy red fruits.. Amazing stuff.
