The 2009 Pensées de Lafleur has a high-toned bouquet with pretty red cherry and crushed strawberry scents, nicely defined if not complex. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, a little honeyed in texture and smooth towards the almost Burgundian finish. Very fine, although it showed better four years ago. Tasted blind at Farr Vintners’ 2009 Bordeaux tasting.
Tasted blind. Some mint and lots of red fruit. A bit of tamarind and stewed character – so not very fresh, distinct flavours. Salty. Rather dry on the end. Inky. (JR)
The 2009 Pensées de Lafleur, 50% Cabernet Franc and 50% Merlot, has a very intense, fruit-driven bouquet with a touch of liquorice developing with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with grippy tannin, menthol-tinged black fruit with a slightly medicinal, highly enjoyable finish that fans out nicely. You can drink this now, but it has the substance to last another decade. Tasted at the Christies’ Lafleur masterclass in London.

The Société Civile du Ch. Lafleur is the collective name for the Guinaudeau family’s wines and estates. These are some of the Right Bank’s most famous wines, including Ch. Lafleur and Les Pensées in Pomerol, along with Les Perrières, Les Champs Libres and Ch. Grand Village in Fronsac.
