Punteggio 90/100 · Da bere 2021-2032, Neal Martin, Jul 2021

The 2009 Fourcas Hosten sports a vintage-typical nose featuring plenty of brambly red fruit, wild cherry, touches of chocolate chip and floral scents of violet and iris (an aspect that is not evident in prior vintages). The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins and plenty of black-pepper-infused black fruit that retains admirable definition and freshness from start to finish. There is a bit of brio about this Listrac, which is drinking beautifully at the moment and should continue to do so over the next decade.

Full of plump, satisfying black fruit. A true product of the vintage. Sleek, savoury, dry and concentrated. Drinking well now – perfumed and with nicely softened tannin, though it should keep well too. (RH)

Restrained peppery nose. Dry, smooth but not very expressive and a little bit flat on the finish just now but it has everything there to improve with time in bottle. (JH)

Tasted at the Medoc UGC. The Fourcas-Hosten has a ripe, rounded bouquet with broody black, slightly tarry fruit with a touch of sous-bois. Showing a little more gumption than its neighbours. The palate is masculine, foursquare with good weight, very conservative with a rather reductive finish, but I think it will expand nicely by time of bottling.
