Good deep red-ruby. Darker on the nose than the Charmes but quite restrained at present, hinting at inky black cherry and violet. Then suave, sweet and fine-grained, with a higher pitch than the Charmes; more fruity and less animal. A lovely combination of power and finesse. This is sweeter on the firm finish than the Charmes but with its superb acid cut it closes down at the very end. Still, the wine's structure is perfectly buffered by silky fruit. I'd wait a good seven years on this one.

Good full red. Dark, sappy fruit aromas of black raspberry, cherry and spices. Silky, suave and wonderfully subtle, conveying a light touch and compelling inner-mouth perfume. This really dances on the palate. Finishes with very fine tannins and terrific snap and persistence. This, too, is quite understated.
This too displays just a touch of reduction but the highly complex nose still manages to convey a beguiling, even sexy sense of spice coupled with bright, perfumed and musky aromas of redcurrant and violets. The rich, delicious and beautifully delineated flavors are nothing but almost impossibly pure extract of pinot with a mouth coating and wonderfully textured quality to the gorgeously long finish. There is really good fat here, something that is relatively rare in 2004 and I very much admire the explosiveness of the finish. Allen Meadows, Burghound, Jan 2006
