Punteggio 95/100 · Da bere 2025-2045, William Kelley, Wine Advocate, Feb 2023

The 2001 Griotte-Chambertin Grand Cru remains remarkably youthful at over 20 years old, blossoming in the glass over several hours to reveal aromas of dark berries and plums mingled with vine smoke, espresso roast and sweet spices. Full-bodied, rich and layered, it's concentrated and one of the more muscular vintages represented in this vertical, with chalky structuring tannins and lively acids underpinning its richly layered core of fruit. Readers with the 2001 in their cellars should try to wait another couple of years, as the wine is on the cusp of maturity but hasn't yet quite reached it.

Full medium ruby. Knockout high-pitched nose combines blackberry, violet, bitter chocolate and mint. Superconcentrated and sweet, with superb density leavened by a strong mineral component. Wonderfully perfumed and elegant wine. The Charmes finishes with more obvious tannic structure and power, but this is classier and more aromatic.

Six years later, the bottled example still quite resembles the original review from cask in 2001. There are almost no traces of maturity to the wonderfully elegant and fine nose of high-toned red fruit, hints of earth and roasted coffee introducing the superbly pure, detailed and precise flavors that deliver impressive intensity on the slightly austere finish. The density and sheer depth will offer a compelling drinking experience over the next two decades for those lucky few that manage to acquire a bottle or two. Outstanding quality and absolutely no rush on this one. Allen Meadows, Burghound Jul, 2007

Bing cherries and spices make up the aromatic profile of the 2001 Griotte-Chambertin. As is typical for Dugat’s wines, it explodes on the palate revealing loads of candied fruits. Red cherries, jammy strawberries, and currants are found throughout its attack and mid-palate, giving way in the finish to a firmly tannic backbone. Anticipated maturity: 2005-2012.
