Punteggio 94/100 · Da bere 2006-2014, Pierre Rovani, Jun 2003

Chocolate-covered blackberries are found in the aromas of the 2000 Griotte-Chambertin. A big, juicy, medium to full-bodied, backward wine, it has massive depth, concentration, and density. Its velvety-textured core of fruit reveals mocha-laced black cherries and blackberries, as well as hints of toasted oak. In addition, its amazingly long finish displays a firm (yet ripe) tannic backbone and roasted dark fruits. If this wine blossoms (as I expect it will) with cellaring, it will ultimately be one of the wines of the vintage. Projected maturity: 2006-2014. When asked if he had a preference between the 2000s and 2001s, the self-effacing Claude Dugat responded that “I like them about the same, even though the 2000s have a roundness that particularly appeals to me.” Later in the conversation, when I commented on the firm nature of his 2001s, he said “reaching full (grape) maturity was a real problem in 2001, but these wines will soften considerably at bottling when the CO2 is removed.” Importer: Robert Kacher Selections, Washington, DC; tel. Not as big bodied as the Charmes yet finer and more elegant with dusty tannins and outstanding intensity as well as better overall focus. Dense, sappy and wonderfully long with a very understated, almost austere style. At this point, it's a choice between the power and impressive volume of the Charmes or the finesse and elegance of the Griotte. Allen Meadows, Burghound Jan, 2002
