More muscular and tightly wound that the seamless 1997, Dugat's 1998 Griotte-Chambertin Grand Cru reveals deeper pitched aromas of sweet cherries, cassis, orange zest and forest floor. Medium to full-bodied, lively and incisive, with a concentrated core that's still framed by chalky tannins, it concludes with a long, saline finish. This is another strong effort in a challenging vintage.

Spicy nose with more than a hint of whole bunch freshness. Medium weight and lots of freshness. (JR)
The 1998 Griotte-Chambertin was produced from even lower yields than the Charmes. Medium to dark ruby-colored, and boasting black cherry aromas, this velvety-textured wine, elegant, intense, and persistent. Copious quantities of candied raspberries and cherries are found in its elegant, layered character. Drink it over the next 8 years. Pierre Rovani, Wine Advocate # 129 Jun 2000
