There was clearly an attempt on the part of the proprietors to make a denser, richer wine in 1989. But in doing so, they appeared to have extracted an unpleasant level of tannin. There is plenty of new oak, but the overall impression is one of toughness, a lack of charm, and excessively astringent tannin levels. Anticipated maturity: 1995-2000.
