Punteggio 92/100 · Jeb Dunnuck, Mar 2012

A blend of mostly concrete aged Grenache, and smaller components of Syrah, Mourvèdre, Cinsault, and Counoise, the 2007 Domaine Durieu Châteauneuf-du-Pape delivers a perfumed, complex, and meaty array of sweet currant, lavender, exotic herbs, raw meat, and bay leaf that flows seamlessly to a full-bodied, voluptuously textured palate. While this starts out slightly soft and easy right on opening, it comes on beautifully with air, filling out and showing a powerful, fleshy feel, superb balance, and a blockbuster finish that shows ripe, polished tannin. I’m a fan, and while this is drinking beautifully now, it evolve gracefully for upwards of a decade.

Punteggio 90/100 · Da bere 2009-2021, Robert Parker, Oct 2009

A sleeper of the vintage, the reasonably priced 2007 Chateauneuf du Pape is a blend of 80% Grenache and the rest primarily Mourvedre and a small amount of Syrah. The Grenache is aged in concrete vats, and the Syrah and Mourvedre spend time in small barrels. This dense ruby/purple-colored 2007 exhibits a big, sweet nose of white chocolate, black currants, garrigue, pepper, and Asian spices, supple tannins, a deep, full-bodied mouthfeel, and good freshness as well as precision. It is a hefty yet elegant Chateauneuf du Pape that should drink nicely for 10-12+ years. A Jack Siler Selection, Springfield, VA; tel. (703) 644-5210; various American importers.
