The 2001 Chateauneuf du Pape exhibits a dark ruby/purple color as well as a pure bouquet of loamy soil aromas intertwined with balsam wood, earth, briery berry fruit, pepper, and spice. The aromatics are accompanied by a layered, lush, medium to full-bodied palate impression, sweet fruit, and moderate tannin. Cellar this 2001 for 1-2 years and enjoy it over the following 10-12. Dark red. Superripe aromas of roasted raspberry, animal fur and game. Fat, sweet and smoky, with a pliant, dense texture and a distinctly roasted quality. Finishes with big, sweet tannins; initially seemed a tad dry but grew sweeter with aeration.
