A fine effort from Baron Leroy, the 2001 Chateauneuf du Pape Tradition’s deep plum/ruby color is accompanied by a sweet bouquet of allspice, cinnamon, damp earth, pepper, black currants, and cherries. Full red-ruby. Spicy aromas of black fruits and violet. Juicy, intensely flavored, bright and youthful; a more primary style of wine than the 2000, even allowing for the difference in age. Juicy berry fruit shows very good definition and supporting spine. Finishes long and ripely tannic.
