Punteggio 92/100 · Da bere 2025-2028, Jeb Dunnuck, Jun 2025

The 2009 Châteauneuf Du Pape from Domaine des Senechaux is an exuberant, savory expression of the appellation offering roasted garrigue, melted licorice, cured meats, and loads of red and black fruits. Full-bodied and supple, it’s round and seamless on the palate, with fine tannins and a gorgeously textured mouthfeel. Fully mature at this stage, with a touch of amber at the rim, it’s still a charming and satisfying effort that has tons to love. Based on 61% Grenache, 21% Syrah, and 18% Mourvèdre, it was vinified in concrete tanks and aged for 12 months in 50% foudre, 30% older barrels, and 20% concrete tanks. Drink: 2025-2028.

Fully mature, the 2009 Chateauneuf du Pape marries classic spice-cake aromas with hints of cedar and licorice. Full-bodied, silky and long, echoing with notes of dried fruit, it should be consumed over the next several years.

(62% grenache, 20% syrah and 18% mourvedre): Ruby-red. Raspberry and cherry on the musky, slightly warm nose. Rich and deeply pitched, offering bitter cherry and licorice flavors and a touch of cracked pepper. On the aggressive side, with strong finishing punch and chewy tannins contributing serious back-end grip. I hope this wine is just in a surly mood right now.
