Raymond Usseglio’s traditional 2005 Châteauneuf du Pape showed beautifully, with good ripeness in its black raspberry, roasted herbs and assorted meatiness. Made from 80% Grenache and the rest Syrah, Cinsault and Counoise, aged 90% in concrete tank, drink this full-bodied, mouth-filling and character-filled offering over the coming 4-5 years.
80% Grenache, 10% Mourvèdre, 10% Syrah, Cinsault, Counoise. From lieux-dits: Piallon, Bois Sénéchaux, Terres Blanches, Palastor, Cabrières, Faguerol. 50% destemmed. Vinified in concrete tank, élevage in 90% concrete and 10% wood. 15,000 bottles produced. pH 3.7, RS 2.5 g/l. Harvested 22 September to 6 October. Dark, quite concentrated crimson. Rich and round with lots of punch and guts. Very refreshing and gorgeous. Jewel-like, lively, precise fruit and great richness. Some energy on the palate too. (JR)

Domaine Raymond Usseglio is one of the leading producers of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, producing a number of different red and white cuvées from the appellation. The domaine’s most famous wine is their Châteauneuf-du-Pape Impériale, which comes exclusively from vines that are over 100 years old.
